The Sony Tablet S is expected to be launched in India very soon, a spokesperson of the company told The Mobile Indian. We anticipated that the Sony Tablet S will arrive just before the Diwali festival. Meanwhile, Sony has already started rolling out the Android 3.2 Honeycomb update for the Tablet S. This update brings new Video Unlimited App for the video streaming service.
The Sony Tablet 3 features 9.4 inch display that supports 1280×800 Pixel resolution – that means the screen is by default ready for 720p HD video content. Under the uniquely designed chassis rests the dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor coupled with 1 GB memory. The Tablet S will feature 16 GB or 32 GB onboard storage options along with support for micro SD card.
For wireless connectivity, the Tablet S supports WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1 along with the Infrared Remote Control functions. This means certain Android apps can convert the tablet into touchscreen remote control. The Tablet S features a 5000mAh battery but battery life duration has not been specified.
By default the Sony Tablet S comes with Android 3.1 Honeycomb tablet operating system but it is quite likely that the Android 3.2 Honeycomb update will be ready for install when the tablet is launched in India. However, there is no confirmation since the update might take a while and may not bring the Video Unlimited service to India as yet.
Pricing of this tablet will play in important factor since couple of competitors had introduced tablets in India at around Rs 35,000 which certainly spooked out many consumers.
