Samsung to release Galaxy Grand on Jan 22

The mid range Android handset is for those who like Galaxy Note like features but at a lesser price point.

Samsung recently announced phablet, the Galaxy Grand, is expected to be launched in India on January 22 for around Rs 25,000.

The Dual phone runs on 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean) and comes with a 5.0 inch display but with a very average resolution of 800×480. The phone has a 1.2 GHz dual core processor (though brand has not been disclosed) and a healthy 1 RAM.

The Samsung Galaxy Grand has 8 GB of and supports up to 64 GB of expandable memory and a 2100 mAh battery. The Galaxy Grand sports an 8 megapixel camera with single LED flash. It is said to have zero shutter-lag and ultra-quick camera start-up. The phone also comes with a backside illumination sensor for better results in dark conditions as well as full video recording capability. There is also a 2 megapixel camera up front for video calling.

Apart from that the Galaxy Grand has and for navigation, 3G, DLNA, WiFi, and 4.0. There is a ‘Direct Call’ feature in the handset that enables users to automatically dial a call by raising the device up to the ear; while users can also shake the phone to trigger status updates, or pan it to zoom into a screen.

Another ‘Smart Alert’ feature in the handset shows missed events such as missed calls and new messages when users pick up the phone. Popup Video, for example, lets users watch video in a pop-up window anywhere on the screen while running other tasks; S Voice lets you control the phone using your voice; and AllShare Play lets you share content across Samsung devices using a single account.

The phone is pre-loaded with the latest versions of Samsung Hubs to deliver the most popular games, movies and music direct to the user on demand.

The phone will bolster the mid range of Samsung Galaxy series and will also provide an option for people who want large screen device without spending large sum on buying the Galaxy Note II, and also don’t want to go for the cheaper options from the Indian brands.
