Samsung to launch Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 8.9 on Aug 10 in India

Samsung is going to announce the availability of these tablets on 10th of August.

Samsung is set to unveil its Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 8.9 tablets for the Indian market on August 10th.

“This event (in Delhi) will be to announce our plans, while the actual launch will be done later,” a Samsung spokesperson told ‘The Mobile Indian’.

These tablets are very important for Samsung and it is probably trying to create a buzz before the actual launch. It had showcased these tablets earlier in April as well.

Although the spokesperson refused to divulge details about the pricing and availability, but its international prices point to pricing similar to the iPad2 which costs between Rs 32,000 to Rs 42,000 depending on the variant.

Galaxy Tab has been very successful in markets where it has been already launched and is seen as the top contender to challenge the dominance of Apple iPad in the Tablet space.

Both the devices feature 3.0 Honeycomb, but the upgrades to 3.1 version is available for markets where the tablet is already available. Samsung has also announced the over the air upgrade (for existing users) to its TouchWiz (User interface), which Samsung has developed for tablets along with various enterprise-centric features, some new apps and the addition of Swype. These updates are likely to come factory installed for products shipping to India.

The tablets have Flash support, full HTML web rendering capabilities, better power management, and a neater user interface. Both are based on Nvidia’s dual core Tegra 2 clocked at 1 GHz, and DDR2 based RAM.

The devices are 3G+ capable so users will get up to 21 download speeds depending on the operator.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 8.9 offer better graphics and gaming experiences, and for that these tablets have gyroscope and accelerometer. For multimedia, the tablets feature stereo speakers and full 1080p playback at 30 frames per second, which can also be played on a big screen TV with the help of HDMI out port.

The Galaxy Tab 10.1 features a bigger 6860 battery and comes in 32 and 64 GB variants.
