Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 to get Android 3.1 Honeycomb update in August

Samsung is holding up an event in New York to demonstrate and launch a major software update for its Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Samsung is going to announce the Google 3.1 Honeycomb update for its Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet with fanfare on August 3.

The company has sent out email invites to selected few for the event where in the major software update for Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet would be demonstrated in New York. Following the event, the update would be made available to general public.

After launching Galaxy Tab 10.1 with native Android 3.0 Honeycomb running on it, Samsung announced to extend its TouchWiz 4.0 user interface to the tablets as well. The TouchWiz user interface is intended to enhance the Android Honeycomb experience by bringing additional set of features that include Live Panels, Mini Apps and the Media Hub. The TouchWiz interface also brings a different notifications interface with additional toggle shortcuts to turn on/off features like Wi-Fi, or GPS. TouchWiz also brings live tiles like widgets that can be placed on the homescreen.

Samsung’s TouchWiz 4.0 interface already debuted on the company’s Android based Galaxy S II handset but the tablet version will be different. Several other customisations are offered that are aimed to enhance the user experience on the Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet.

Apart from all that, the update will also bring certain free apps like the Amazon Kindle and Cloud Player. Samsung will release this new Android 3.1 Honeycomb update for Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet over the air.

Samsung is expected to release Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet for India in coming couple of weeks. We hope that this new Android 3.1 Honeycomb update is also available for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 whenever it releases in India.
