Samsung Galaxy S8 likely to get portrait mode with next update

The Galaxy S8 is equipped with a 12-megapixel rear camera with Dual Pixel technology and aperture f/1.7 and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera.

Samsung is reportedly working on a for its flagship device, the Galaxy S8. The new feature could be introduced through a future software update.

According to a report by GSMArena, Samsung customer service representative replied to an email by a customer who was asking about will Galaxy S8 users get portrait mode. To this, the representative replied, “there is no information yet, but we hope that you will get portrait mode update with the next SW.” This means that Samsung might introduce the popular mode to the Galaxy S8 and most probably to Galaxy S8 Plus as well.

Interestingly, Samsung latest flagship offering, the Galaxy Note 8, comes loaded with a portrait mode. However, this is possible due to the dual-camera setup used on the Note 8. But it seems that the company might be looking implement the mode a similar fashion as Google did with the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL.

Recollecting some key specifications, Samsung Galaxy S8 comes with a 5.8-inch Quad (2960 x 1440 pixels) Infinity display which is curved on both sides while the Galaxy S8+ comes with a 6.2-inch Quad-HD display. Both the handsets boast a strange display aspect ratio of 18:9. The Indian variant of the Galaxy S8 and S8+ is likely to come with Exynos 8895 which is an Octa-Core processor clocked at 2.3 GHz. This is because Samsung sells the Qualcomm variant of its flagship in select regions only. Apart from this, the device packs 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 256GB via card.

On the camera front, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ are equipped with a 12-megapixel rear camera with Dual Pixel technology and f/1.7 and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera with smart and aperture f/1.7.MP F1.7 Smart autofocus front camera.

Both of them runs on the latest 7.0 Nougat and the smaller sibling is powered by a 3000mAh battery, while the Plus model boasts 3500mAh battery with fast charging on wired and wireless. On the connectivity front, both the devices support Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, USB Type-C, GPS, GLONASS and LTE. The Samsung Galaxy S8 measures 148.9 x 68.1 x 8.0 mm and weighs 155g, while the Galaxy S8+ measures 159.5 x 73.4 x 8.1 mm and 173g.
