Samsung Galaxy S8 leaks: Slow-motion recording at 1000fps, iris scanner for mobile payments, 6GB RAM

If the recent leaks are believed to be true then both the smartphones will have a capability of shooting slow motion video at 1000 frames per second and the much-touted iris scanner will carry a 3.7-megapixel RGB sensor.

As we are heading towards the launch of Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, rumours and speculations about the upcoming devices are taking the internet by storm. We already are aware of most of the features of the devices, but still, if the recent one is believed then both the smartphones will have a capability of shooting slow motion video at 1000 frames per second and the much-touted iris scanner will carry a 3.7-megapixel RGB sensor and might be used for payments as well.

Slow-motion video recording at 1000 fps

As per a report by Headlines, Samsung is planning to add some extra muscles to the rear camera of both the devices by embedding DRAM chip physically into the camera sensor, which will allow it to capture slow-motion videos at up to 1000 frames per second.

For those who are not aware, DRAM basically gives the ability to capture better slow-motion videos, improved shutter speeds and multi-image noise reduction artefacts. This is not the first time when a manufacturer has opted for DRAM, Sony added the same technology to its latest Sony Xperia XZ Premium, which also allows capturing slow-motion at high frame rates.

High-resolution iris scanner with mobile payments

Further, the report highlights that the company is leaving no stone unturned to make iris scanner a strong point. For this, the company might add a 3.7-megapixel RGB sensor, which approx. half the size of the front-facing camera (8-megapixel).

Meanwhile, a report by Bloomberg further hints that the iris scanner used in the Galaxy S8 and S8+ might be used for mobile payments as well. The devices might use a combination of a fingerprint sensor, iris scanning and facial recognition, which will help to determine user identity.

However, the report further highlights that facial recognition might not come pre-installed with the device, but users will get it within months through an update.

6GB of variant for China

The next report suggests that Samsung will bring a new variant for both the devices with 6GB of RAM, but sadly, it will be only available for the Chinese market. According to Kevin Wong, head of research at analysis firm IHS China (via Sammobile), the international variant will boast a 4GB of RAM, while for China the company will come up with a 6GB of RAM (and might 128GB storage option).

This is primary because many of the local manufacturers are rolling out smartphones with 6GB of RAM. The move might help the company to not get overshadowed by the local competition.

Pearl Black colour variant leaked again

Lastly, a new image has been leaked online which showcases the device in Black colour. The new images that leaked on Weibo give us a glimpse of the glossy back finish of the Galaxy S8 Plus. The back of the phone shows a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor coupled with the rear camera module and flash. Both the devices are expected to come in Black, Silver and a new Violet colour options, which is a welcome move, as many of the competitors, like Huawei, are offering their smartphones in a plethora of colour options.
