If the latest reports are to believed then it seems that Samsung is planning something big for its next-generation of flagship devices, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. The upcoming devices are rumoured to come with some top-of-the-line specs and the company might actually improve the selfie camera as well.
As reported by ET News, the company might introduce a new Autofocus feature for its front-facing camera. If this is true then front-facing camera will be able to focus more clearly on subjects. The report further highlights that the camera will come with an autofocus actuator, a module that will automatically identifies the focal distance between the subject and the lens. The company is also rumoured to adopt iris recognition module, which we saw in the Galaxy Note 7.
In another report, the dimensions of the upcoming devices have been leaked online. As per GSM Arena, the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus will measure 152.38 x 78.51 x7.94mm, while the Samsung Galaxy S8 measures at 140.14×72.20×7.30mm. The report further highlights that the Plus variant will sport a 6.3-inch screen and the standard version will come with a 5.7-inch display, which is line with previous rumours.
Previously, Samsung Display rolled out a new promotional video which is reported to showcase the upcoming device. As per the video, the smartphone has a bezel-less design and a relatively thinner top and bottom chin as well which is in line with the previous reports about Samsung’s choice of design language for the Galaxy S8.
Rounding up other rumours, the company might add a new virtual assistant known as Bixby in most of its native applications which come pre-installed on the device. Bixby (for male) and Kestra (for female) is rumoured to be Samsung’s own AI-enabled digital voice assistant which will compete for a neck to neck with Google Assistant and Siri. The company is also rumoured to bring a Plus variant with a 6-inch display which will come with an external S Pen stylus.
As for the specs, it is likely to come with a whopping 8GB of RAM, Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, optical fingerprint sensor embedded in the display, a 90 percent body-to-screen ratio, Bluetooth 5.0 and a UFS 2.1 flash storage chip. Other than this, it is also reported that Samsung might ditch the traditional Audio Jack for a new USB Type-C port instead.
