Samsung Galaxy S5 mini with Fingerprint, heart rate sensor announced

Samsung is on a roll with the announcement of several Galaxy series handsets. The latest one is the younger kin of its flagship Galaxy S5 smartphone – Galaxy S5 mini. Just like the flagship smartphone, even the Galaxy S5 mini is IP67 certified – Dust and Water resistant. The Galaxy S5 mini brings along the 4.5-inch HD Super AMOLED Display and is powered by a quad-core 1.4 Ghz mobile processor. Running the Android 4.4 KitKat under the TouchWiz Essence UI, the Galaxy S5 mini will be released later next month in Charcoal Black, Shimmery White, Electric Blue and Copper Gold colour options.

Samsung’s new Galaxy S5 mini attempts to bring the best features of the flagship Galaxy S5 in a smaller package. The new Galaxy S5 mini features a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED display with 1280×720 pixel resolution. The Galaxy S5 mini is powered by a quad-core 1.4 Ghz processor and Samsung remains mum about the maker. The smartphone packs 1.5 GB RAM and offers 16 GB on-board memory. The phone also offers memory card slot to hold up to 64 GB micro SD card.

Samsung has loaded the Android 4.4 KitKat update layered with TouchWiz Essence on the top. At the rear is a 8 megapixel camera with Autofocus and LED Flash. The camera app includes support for Virtual Tour Shot, S Studio and capability to record full HD videos. In the front is a 2.1 megapixel camera with full HD resolution.

Samsung has also integrated Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy, micro USB 2.0, GPS with A-GPS and GLONASS support. Samsung has also added the Heart Rate Sensor along with Fingerprint Sensor just like the Galaxy S5. Other bunch of sensors include accelerometer, digital compass, gyroscope, proximity, hall and ambient light.

Samsung has also included the Ultra Power Saving mode to conserve battery life. Measure 9.1 mm thick, Galaxy S5 mini bears perforated back panel. Samsung has added 2100 mAh battery and will offer the Galaxy S5 mini in 3G and 4G LTE network versions.
