Samsung Galaxy On7 Pro vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 3

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 has much better features but is that enough?

Samsung has just launched the Galaxy On7 Pro, through Amazon, for Rs 11,190. We have here compared it with a popular smartphone – the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 that is currently retailing in India at Rs 11,999 for its 3 RAM variant.

Design

The Galaxy On7 Pro has the same design as many other mid-range Samsung phones. It has a thin profile with metal sides and a leather finish back panel. The back panel is removable. Under the display lies the iconic Samsung home button while the back is dominated by the rear camera.

Samsung On7 Pro, thus looks quite decent but the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 is far ahead in this section. Its unibody metal body, curved sides and elegant looks pushes it far ahead of the Samsung device.

The Samsung Galaxy On7 Pro has a 5.5 inch touchscreen with compared to that the Redmi Note 3 offers 5.5 inch display with full HD resolution.

Camera

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 has a 16 rear camera that comes with 5 element lens, f/2.0 aperture, 78 degree wide angle lens, two tone flash light, panorama, HDR and manual mode features. Its front 5 megapixel camera has f2.0 as well.

The Samsung Galaxy On7 Pro has an equally good looking 13 megapixel rear camera with flash light and a 5 megapixel front camera.

We haven’t tested the phones yet so cannot comment on their camera output but figure wise, I think there is little difference between the two.

Memory

The Samsung Galaxy On7 Pro has 2 GB RAM, 16 GB of inbuilt memory and a micro card slot that can hold a card of up to 128 GB capacity.

On the other hand, the Redmi Note 3 (that costs Rs 11,999) offers 3 GB RAM, 32 GB of and a 32 GB micro SD card slot. Here though the Samsung handset has higher expandable storage, the Redmi Note 3 offers better internal memory.

Processor

The Redmi Note 3 has the 64 bit Snapdragon 650 hexa core that has maximum clockspeed of 1.8 GHz. To handle graphics, it has Adreno 510 GPU. To top that, the phone has 3 GB RAM. However, it has the older Lollipop operating system.

On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy On7 Pro has the low end 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 410 quad core processor and Adreno 306 GPU. It offers only 2 GB RAM. However, it offers the latest Android Marshmallow operating system.

Clearly, here Redmi Note 3 has an upper hand as sooner or later it is likely to get the Android Marshmallow update as well.

Connectivity and Battery

The Samsung smartphone has two slots and offers as well. Besides, it has 4.1, WiFi (b/g/n), micro USB 2.0 port, WiFi Direct, 3.5 mm jack, and GPS with and Beidou.

The Redmi Note 3 also has dual SIM slot (hybrid tray) as well as 4G and Bluetooth 4.1. It comes with better WiFi standard – a/b/g/n/ac. It has additional sensor and fingerprint sensor apart from micro USB 2.0 port and GPS with AGPS, GLONASS and Beidou.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 has a bigger 4000 battery against a 3000 mAh battery of Samsung Galaxy On7 Pro.

Conclusion

Samsung is the top handset seller in India. It is the older handset player and has much better service facilities all over the country. So if you are staying in Tier II and smaller towns and villages, I would suggest you to go for the Samsung Galaxy On7 Pro for its resale value and after sale services. But if you are in metro cities or where Xiaomi’s service centers are available, then it is wiser to go for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3. And only in terms of specifications, the Samsung Galaxy On7 Pro is no match for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3.
