Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime and Lenovo Z2 Plus were launched in India in September this year. The Galaxy J7 Prime is priced at Rs 18,790, while the Lenovo Z2 Plus one comes for Rs 17,999. Specifications of both the devices look competitive on paper, so let’s find out which one is worth buying at this price range.
Design and Display
The Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime has a metal body and a 5.5-inch full HD 2.5D curved glass display that comes with 1920×1080 pixels Resolution and Gorilla Glass 4 protection, while as the Lenovo Z2 Plus comes with fiberglass body which as per the company is ‘stronger and lighter than metal’ and offers a 5-inch full HD 2.5D curved glass display with resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. Here Galaxy J7 Prime scores high as nowadays 5.5-inch is considered as the ideal screen size of any smartphone. If one has to choose from the metal body or fibreglass body, in our view, the metal body scores. Both the devices house a fingerprint sensor, which is embedded on the home button.
Processor and Memory
The Galaxy J7 Prime is powered by a 1.6 GHz octa-core Exynos 7870 processor, which is paired with 3GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. An expandable storage slot is there for a micro SD card of up to 256 GB capacity. While the Z2 Plus comes equipped with 2.15 quad-core Snapdragon 820 processor, which is apparently considered to be a more powerful processor than the Exynos 7870 in terms of performance. Further, the Z2 Plus comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory. Here we have more internal storage in comparison to Galaxy J7 Prime, but Z2 Plus doesn’t have expandable storage slot which might be its biggest drawback. Both the devices run on Android Marshmallow operating system.
Camera
On the camera front, both the competitors come with a 13-megapixel primary shooter with LED flash and an 8-megapixel selfie camera. We have done the review of Z2 Plus and found the camera performing well in the day time but in low and artificial light, we found it just about average. Pictures clicked were very pixelated and were far from being termed as good. Although we have not reviewed the Galaxy J7 Prime, but Samsung has a well-earned reputation for quality cameras and we expect the ones on the device to be the same.
Battery and Connectivity
In the battery department, Z2 Plus clearly has an EDGE with 3,500 mAh battery over J7 Prime smartphone with 3300 mAh battery. Both the smartphone comes with non-removable batteries. In any case, this is one comparison we can hardly expect Samsung to win for some time, isn’t it? On the connectivity front, both the devices offer 4G LTE with VoLTE and come with all basic connectivity functions. The Z2 Plus comes with USB Type-C port, where as Galaxy J7 prime has a MicroUSB port. The J7 Prime measures 151.7 x 75.0 x 8.0mm and weighs 167 grams, whereas Z2 Plus measures 141.65 x 68.88 x 8.45 mm and weighs 149 grams. Here Galaxy J7 prime is thinner than Z2 plus, but in weight wise Z2 plus is lighter by all of 18 grams. Game changer? No.
Wrapping up
Now it’s time to decide which one is worth your hard earned money. The Galaxy J7 Prime has 5.5-inch, while Z2 Plus feature a 5-inch screen. Here screen size preference is entirely up to users’ convenience. While Z2 Plus has a better processor, the J7 Prime comes with an option to expand the storage up to 256 GB. On the camera front, we do know that the Z2 Plus is ordinary, so the J7 Prime has an edge. Further, Z2 Plus comes with a larger battery, whereas J7 Prime lack USB Type-C port. The battery remains a bugbear for the J7 Prime because it is smaller and has to power a larger phone. We have penned down all the pros and cons for both the devices to make your decision easier.
At the end of the day, it depends on your personal choice of brand and the usage you want to extract from the device. The TMI (The Mobile Indian) suggestion would be Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime, over Lenovo Z2 Plus, irrespective of the recent Samsung Note 7 controversy.
