Samsung Galaxy Gear S3 might be coming to India in January 2017

The South Korean giant unveiled the new Gear S3 lineup back in September at IFA 2016.

Back in September, Samsung unveiled its new Gear S3 line-up at IFA 2016. Now, according to Sammobile, the South Korean giant is likely to launch the new smartwatch lineup in India sometime in January. However, no exact date has been released. Further, there has been no information about the pricing as well.

The Gear S3 comes in two variants – a rugged designed ‘Frontier’ and elegantly designed ‘Classic’ model. While the Frontier variant is designed for any occasion, the Classic variant is designed as a luxury watch with careful attention to detail such as size, shape etc.

Both the variants are water resistant (IP68 certified) and have built-in GPS, 4.2, NFC support and WiFi. In addition to this, the Frontier variant also has its own 3G/LTE chip for mobile payments anywhere through Samsung Pay and connectivity, though this feature will be region specific.

Recollecting the technical specifications, in the front, the Gear S3 sports a 1.3 inch Circular Super with 360 x 360 pixel resolution and SR+ for protection. The new smart watch from the South Korean giant is powered by 1 GHz Dual-Core processor paired with 768MB RAM and 4GB internal memory. The Gear S3 runs on Tizen based wearable platform 2.3.2 and has a 380mAh battery which interestingly supports wireless charging. Regarding the sensors, both the variants have Accelerometer, Gyro, Barometer, HRM and Ambient Light sensor.

Additionally, a variety of customizable watch faces will be available for download and some select apps and watch faces will be available for download directly on the Gear S3 rather than first downloading it on your smartphone.

We hope Samsung Gear S3 has priced attractively in India as the smartwatch market in India is yet to hit its peak.

In other news, yesterday Lenovo Moto confirmed that it will not be releasing the next version of Moto 360 blaming the poor traction of smartwatches across the globe. Keeping this announcement in mind, it will be interesting to see how Samsung price the new Gear S3 in India. Right now, the Samsung Galaxy Gear S2 silver smartwatch is available for Rs 18,400 with Rose Gold and Classic Platinum variant priced at Rs 25,900.
