Reliance Jio has topped the list when it comes to providing 4G availability across India, while Airtel remains that fastest network for Q3 and Q4, as per the latest report Ookla.
The report highlights Reliance Jio was able to provide cellular availability in 99.3 per cent locations. Airtel was at the second spot with 99.1 per cent followed by Vodafone with 99 per cent and Idea Cellular with 98.9 per cent. “Jio showed the densest pattern of coverage samples for General Availability across India, with only a few areas where coverage data showed no service,” the report adds.
Moving to 4G availability, Reliance Jio once again topped the list with 98.8 per cent followed by Airtel with 90 per cent, Vodafone 84.6 per cent and Idea with 82.8 per cent. The 4G availability of Reliance Jio was dense, meanwhile, Vodafone and Idea did not a robust coverage of 4G networks across the country.
However, Ookla points out that 4G availability does not equal fast speeds. In this segment, Ookla used their Proprietary Speed Score, which is a combined measure of download and upload speed that incorporates several tiers of performance. As per the report, Airtel tops the chart with a Speed Score of 11.23 Mbps.
Vodafone took the second place with a Speed Score of 9.13 per cent followed by Reliance Jio with 7.11 Mbps and Idea Cellular with 7.02 Mbps. “Airtel was the fastest mobile operator in India during Q3-Q4 2018, regardless of whether a customer was on LTE or not,” the report stated.
