Starting today, Reliance Jio SIM is available for all 4G enabled handset users with the Jio Welcome offer. With the Welcome Offer, Reliance Jio is providing free unlimited 4G data, voice calls and SMS till 31st December 2016.
But, now questions are being raised about the quality of Jio’s services.
Free Unlimited Data:
As per Reliance, from September 5 everyone owning a Jio SIM will have access to free unlimited 4G data till 31st December 2016 as a part of Jio Welcome offer. But, one will get 4G speeds only up till 4GB data after which the speed will be slowed down to as low as 128Kbps. Thankfully, this is a per day data limit and won’t affect much in case you are a normal user. Moreover, the promised unlimited night data is only between 2 am to 5 am which is strange.
Preview Offer or Welcome Offer:
There have been a lot users asking what will happen to the preview offer starting today. Reliance Jio mentioned the issue in its FAQs and says that “If you are an existing Jio Preview Offer customer, you will be automatically migrated to the Free Welcome Offer on 05th Sept, 2016. If you get a Jio SIM as part of the Free Welcome Offer, you will enjoy HD voice & video calling, unlimited SMS, high-speed data and access to a host of Jio premium apps till 31st Dec, 2016.†One should note that in the preview offer, one would get unlimited data without and speed degradation post certain limit.
Data Throttling
Users especially in major metropolitans like Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad etc. have reported incredibly slow download speeds but the speeds goes up when one uses apps like ‘Speedtest’. Reliance is reportedly doing data throttling wherein it knows what App or website you are using and downgrade the speed accordingly. However, this issue has been only experienced in big cities as of now.
Customer Service
With so many people trying to activate their free services, Jio is having a hard time resolving queries and we bet many of you might already have frustrated with slow services.
Nevertheless, if you are a Jio SIM user, call 198 or 199 for general verification. Other mobile operator should call 1800-88-99999. For tele-verification call 1977 to activate both HD voice & data services and 1800-890-1977 to activate data services only.
You can contact them on their Twitter account as well (@jiocare) and you can find the nearest Jio store here: https://goo.gl/iDxVL6.
Portability
Starting today, users will also be able to port their existing mobile number to Jio. To port in, send PORT Mobile Number to 1900 from your existing number which needs to be ported to Jio. After which you will need to generate the code from My Jio app and walk in any Reliance Store with necessary documents to get the SIM. However, we would strongly suggest you to wait a bit longer before porting. Instead get a Jio SIM while keeping your current SIM.
Call Drops
If you are planning to use the Jio SIM as your primary mobile number, we will recommend you to just wait a bit more as these days other mobile operators such as Airtel, Vodafone etc. are being accused to block all the calls coming from a Jio number. Also, many Jio users have reported call drops while calling to other Jio users.
Tariff Plans
You don’t have to worry about tariff plans just yet. Last week in the AGM of Reliance, Mukesh Ambani revealed the various plans which will be available post ‘Welcome Offer’ starting from January 1st, 2017. Nonetheless you can check the plans here: https://goo.gl/GZkGEk
