Reliance Jio follows Airtel and Vodafone Idea to increase mobile tariffs

Reliance Jio has revealed that it will increase the prices in the “next few weeks”.

After Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea, Reliance Jio has also revealed that it will increase mobile tariffs in India. The telecom operator said that it will increase the prices in the “next few weeks”.

With this, it will be for the first time that the telecom operator will increase all of its tariff plans. “Like other operators, we will also work with the Government and comply with the regulatory regime to strengthen the industry to benefit Indian consumers and take measures including an appropriate increase in tariffs in the next few weeks in a manner that does not adversely impact data consumption or growth in digital adoption and sustains investments,” said Jio in a statement.

The company has made its move after both Bharti Airtel and Vodafone announced that they will increase the tariff plans in the country in the view of their unprecedented loss and heavy government dues along with mounting debts. “To ensure that its customers continue to enjoy world-class digital experiences, Vodafone Idea will suitably increase the prices of its tariffs effective December 1, 2019,” Vodafone said in a statement.

“The telecom sector is highly capital intensive with fast-changing technology cycles that require continuing investments. It is, therefore, extremely important that the industry remains viable to support the vision of Digital India. Airtel will appropriately increase price offerings in the month beginning December,” Airtel said in a statement.

With this, one should expect that their postpaid and prepaid plans will get costlier. The companies have not revealed how much the tariffs will get costlier or is it a temporary hike or permanent. Stay tuned with us for further details on this story.
