If the latest data from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is anything to go by then Reliance Jio has achieved another milestone by reaching 18.15 megabits per second (Mbps) download speed in December 2016, which is much higher than peak speed of 7.2Mbps registered in September 2016. The Mukesh Ambani-led company has left behind other operators like Vodafone, Airtel and Idea to achieve the highest 4G speed in India.
The data also revealed that Airtel had taken a toll in terms of delivering better download speed. The company had registered only 4.7Mbps of download speed, which is much lower than other operators like Idea (5.9Mbps). Vodafone, on the other hand, is able to increase its 4G speed from 6.12Mbps in November to 9.6Mbps in December. Other than this, Idea network showed an average download speed of 5.03Mbps, BSNL’s 3.42Mbps, Aircel’s 3Mbps and Reliance Communications’ 2.6Mbps in December.
The source of the data comes from TRAI’s speed testing app known as MySpeed Portal. The application is already available for download on Android and iOS as well as one can also access it through the web portal. To recall, the monthly data released in November by the regulator showed that Reliance Jio download speed was just 5.85 Mbps, which was much lower than Vodafone (6.12 Mbps) and Airtel (6.17 Mbps).
For those who are not aware, Reliance Jio extended its free voice and data services on December 1 by announcing a new Happy New Year offer for both new and existing users which is valid up to March 31, 2017.
