Mobile World Congress is just 10 days away and we have another interesting announcement. The South Korean handset manufacturer, Samsung will host a joint press conference with India’s Reliance Jio at the tech show which takes place later this month in Barcelona. Samsung has already started sending out invites for the same and the event is all set to take place on 28th February at 8:45 AM CET (1:15 PM IST).
As per the invite, Samsung is planning to “foster engagement and participation among industry leaders, governments, and communities, by discussing Jio’s successful 4G LTE business and how it has transformed the everyday lives of 1.3 billion Indians.” Further, the global handset player also posted that they will be talking about all the relevant contribution made by Samsung in Reliance Jio’s services.

However, the exact objective of this press conference is still a mystery as the company didn’t reveal anything of this sort in the invite. So what is Samsung and Reliance Jio have in store for consumers at this year’s MWC? There is a possibility that the home-grown telecom operator is looking to tap the global business opportunities with this collaboration or the two firms might be coming up with an affordable 4G VoLTE enabled smartphone. Reliance Jio is reported to be working on an extremely affordable VoLTE-enabled smartphone but is Jio working with Samsung to built the device? We don’t really know. Else, the event might just showcase Reliance Jio’s success in India. The Mukesh Ambani-owned telecom operator is about to reach its milestone of 100 million subscribers and currently, sits 2nd to Airtel in Indian telecom industry, revealed a report earlier today.
On the other hand, Samsung has continued to rule the Indian smartphone market despite last year’s Note 7 massacre which did harm company’s sale for Q4 2016. Interestingly, Samsung was one of the first partners of Reliance Jio for selling smartphones bundled with a Jio SIM.
