Redmi’s Note 8 moniker was confirmed by Redmi GM, Lu Weibing earlier this month and now Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has confirmed the launch date of the upcoming mid-range smartphone. The Redmi Note 8 will thus be launched on August 29, the same day when the company plans to launch the 70-inch Redmi TV.
The news comes from Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun who initially took to Weibo to announce the launch date of the Redmi TV. As a reply to a comment which asked if the launch of the Redmi Note 8 can be expected on the same day, Lei Jun replied with a thumbs-up emoji. This means we can expect the successor of the Redmi Note 7 on August 29.
While we can expect a proper teaser at a later time, Redmi GM Lu Weibing wrote another post detailing some features of the Redmi Note 8. He said the phone will come with a higher screen-to-body ratio, longer screen, better camera and a larger battery. Lu Weibing still didn’t hint the presence of the 64MP camera technology which was recently unveiled in Beijing earlier this month.
However, purported pictures of the Redmi Note 8 have been leaked online. The pictures show the back of the phone which has the text “64MP AI Super Camera” engraved at the centre of the glass panel. This looks to be a quad-camera setup at the back, all placed vertically adjacent to each other.
The other pictures point out the existence of a USB Type-C, 3.5mm Headphone jack and a SIM card slot on the left. There’s no room for a fingerprint scanner at the back, meaning the Redmi Note 8 will come with an in-display fingerprint sensor like the Redmi K20.
The Redmi Note 8 will be launched on August 29 alongside the Redmi TV.
