RCom launches tariff plan for iPad 2; BSNL still cheapest

Reliance Communications is the second operator after BSNL to have a special iPad 2 tariff. The plans are not as cheap as BSNL's, but are cheaper than RCom's 3G plans.

Reliance Communications has launched special tariff plans for iPad 2 users. The basic plan starts at Rs 203 for 1 of data for a day, but is meant only for prepaid subscribers. For Rs 750, Apple iPad 2 users can get 5 GB of data for a month; while for Rs 1,100 they get 10 GB for a month.

Users need not buy iPads from RCom as the offer is available to both new and existing iPad users. New users can buy an iPad from the open market and get the plan from RCom.

BSNL, on the other hand, is offering unlimited data download over a day at Rs 99 for both postpaid and prepaid customers; and unlimited data over a month for Rs 999. For prepaid customers there is a special plan at Rs 599 with 5 GB of data over a month.

BSNL is also offering a starter pack in which Rs 100 will buy 1 GB of data per month for the first six months. The plan is also available to both new and existing users.

Though BSNL’s plan is cheaper and its services are available in more cities than RCom’s, the PSU telecom operator has no presence in two of the major markets of the iPad 2 – Delhi and Mumbai.

Tata Docomo also offers unlimited data for Rs 1,000 which can be used on iPad 2, making it slightly better than RCom’s unlimited plan. However, Docomo is not present in Delhi and Mumbai circles either.
