Pokemon Go finally hits the Indian shores

Pokemon Go has finally launched in India, all thanks to the strategic partnership between Reliance Jio and Niantic, the developer of the game. Pokemon Go will be available to download via Google Play and the Store starting from today in India.

As a part of this partnership, thousands of Reliance Digital Stores and theirs select partner premises in India will appear as ‘PokéStops’ or ‘Gyms’. For those who are not aware, PokeStop is a place where users are able to grab some poke balls and eggs which eventually are meant to be hatched into random Pokemon, while Gym is the place where they can train and fight with other Pokemon Trainers. The Reliance Jio users will get an exclusive Pokemon Go channel on its service JioChat. The players can collaborate and be a part of community of players with daily tips, contests, clues and special events

“We are delighted to partner with Jio to launch Pokemon Go in India,” John Hanke, chief executive officer and founder of Niantic said. “It’s exciting to see Pokemon fans in India step out and explore their neighbourhoods in search of Pokemon and Jio’s disruptive high-speed Network will be an excellent way to experience the game,” he added.

The augmented reality game was launched on July 7 and become a sensation in the mobile gaming segment. The app has been downloaded 500 million globally and is based on the popular anime TV shows Pokemon. In the game, a user need to find and catch Pokemon by walking around his/her city. The game requires an active data connection, camera and in order to run.
