Maruti Suzuki Swift is one of the most popular cars in India. Maruti made it more irresistible earlier this year with the 2018 version. But if you can wait, you probably should as a much powerful version of the car may be in works.
As per a report of Moneycontrol, a new variant of the car is in works which would come with significantly more power. The car has been codenamed as MF30 and it will come with a six-speed gearbox, according to the report. The extra gear would offer smoother drive on highways and better fuel economy at the gear.
Currently, Maruti Suzuki’s competitor Hyundai offer six-speed gearbox in Elite i20, Verna, Elantra and Creta, while Volkswagon polo offers a 7-speed gearbox. Tata Nexon, Mahindra Duster, Jeep Compass, Mahindra XUV 500 etc also come with a six-speed gearbox.
“Maruti is looking to shore up the use of six-speed transmissions in a gradual way. Starting with 50,000 units in the first year the demand is projected to go to 400,000 units per year by 2020,” the report said citing an industry source. The current 5-speed gearbox based Swift 2018 is available in the price range of Rs 4.99 lakh to Rs 8.29 lakh.
