According to the latest report by IDC (International Data Corporation), PC shipments in India were at 2.14 million units in Q2 2016 which is 7.2 per cent more than the last quarter. On the other hand, when compared to the same quarter last year, the overall shipments have witnessed a 2.2 percent decline.
“Consumer demand has remained optimistic over the last few quarters, and is anticipated to thrive in coming quarters owing to increased consumer spending both as a result of seasonality and festive buying,” said Manish Yadav, senior market analyst, client devices, IDC India who anticipates that the market will recover soon.
As per the report, the overall consumer PC market stood at 1.05 million units, whereas the commercial PC market took up the remaining share of 1.09 million units. While the consumer PC market showed a growth a quarterly growth of 14.5 percent, commercial PC market didn’t show that much of a growth with only 1.1 percent when compared to Q1 2016.
“Consumer spending throughout the quarter remained lukewarm, however owing to seasonality quarter ended up with a positive momentum. With forthcoming benefits from the 7th Pay commission and increased budget allocation for rural India, coupled with a good monsoon the rural demand is anticipated to improve, while urban demand is steadily picking-up,” he added.
Regarding the manufacturers, HP claimed the top position with overall PC market share of 28.4 percent showing a total of 3.4 percent of quarterly growth. Dell comes next with 22.2 percent of market share followed by Lenovo with 16.1 percent of market share. Dell showed a growth of 0.7 percent in overall PC market whereas a growth of 16.7 percent in overall consumer PC market when compared to Q1 2016. Lenovo on the other hand showed a decline of 12.1 percent in overall PC market when compared to the last quarter.
