Paramount brings Silverlight enhanced movies to Windows Phone 7

Paramount Pictures announces School of Rock movie app for Windows Phone 7 – the first of ten movie apps in the pipeline.

Paramount Pictures has announced a movie for Windows Phone 7 based on the idea that users would prefer the movie app over downloading the film.
The app is for a movie called School of Rock, and is part of a batch of ten such film apps including Waiting for Superman and GIJoe: The Rise of Cobra.
The School of Rock app is made with Silverlight, which is Microsoft’s version of Flash. These movie apps are similar to DVDs in that they are loaded with additional content such as trailers and special features. They are tiny pieces of software that later redirect you to longer downloading sessions over the internet.
There are some additional features available on these apps as well, such as the ability to make custom clips.
Paramount’s School of Rock app is initially being launched in USA and Canada, and will be released in the international market by the year end.
Techie circles were abuzz with the idea of Silverlight movies being available on Windows phones about six months ago itself.
