Panasonic Lumix GH5 DSLR with Venus Engine, 6K photo capturing launched in India

The camera is available at various Panasonic stores and is priced at Rs 1,43,990 for the body and Rs 1,88,990 with the DC-GH5 Kit which includes a 12-60 mm F2.8-4.0 lens.

Panasonic today launched a new DSLR camera named as Lumix GH5 in India. The camera is available at various Panasonic stores and is priced at Rs 1,43,990 for the body and Rs 1,88,990 with the DC-GH5 Kit which includes a 12-60 mm F2.8-4.0 lens.

Jumping straight into the specifications, the new Lumix GH5 boasts a rugged magnesium alloy body with full die cast for the front and rear frame which is not only splashproof and dustproof but also freeze-proof down to -10 degrees. It sports a 20.3-megapixel Digital Live MOS sensor which combines with the new Venus Engine from Panasonic, achieving high picture quality in resolution, colour reproduction and noise reduction. Further, this camera can record in 60p/50p video recording and 4:2:2 10-bit 4K 30p/25p internal video recording making it the first camera in the world to have such functionality.

Equipped with the VFR (Variable Frame Rate), the Panasonic GH5 can record over-cranked/under-cranked video in 4K at 60fps, (maximum 2.5x slower) and Full at 180 fps, (maximum 7.5x slower).

Coming back to the Venus Engine, the new technology from Panasonic focuses on Depth From Defocus (DFD) ensuring high-speed digital signal processing at a maximum of 480 fps. Moreover, the focus areas are increased from 49 to 225 areas on the GH5 in addition to the conventional Face/Eye Recognition resulting in more precise focusing. Further, Panasonic claims that it will be compatible with 400-Mbps 4:2:2 10-bit all-Intra video recording in 4K 30p/25p/24p and 200-Mbps all-Intra Full-HD sometime in second half of 2017.

In terms of photography, the camera is also capable of capturing 6K Photos by extracting the frame from a 6K burst file in 4:3 or 3:2 aspect which saves as an approx. 18-megapixel equivalent high-resolution photo.

The camera comes with a double slot which is compatible with high-speed, high-capacity UHS-II which is something new to the Lumix series from Panasonic. Apart from this, it includes and connectivity to offer a more flexible shooting experience and an option to share the content easily.
