If we go by OnePlus’s twitter account, the Chinese multinational has something interesting up its sleeves for today. OnePlus twitter handle yesterday posted a photo with a caption ‘Meet the future of Dash Charge tomorrow’.
The company hasn’t revealed anything about the upcoming technology but we assume it can be an upgrade to the existing Dash Charge technology from OnePlus. The current OnePlus Dash Charge can charge your OnePlus 3 from 0 to 63% and your OnePlus 3T from 0 to 51% in just half an hour. The new Dash Charge might increase the charging speed further up, but we hope OnePlus doesn’t introduce a new variant of OnePlus 3T for the compatibility. Another guess is, the company might introduce a OnePlus exclusive Dash Power Bank for the OnePlus 3 and 3T.
To explain the working of OnePlus Dash Charge, while most of the manufacturers ramp up the Voltage in order to put more power with more pressure to the smartphone, OnePlus Dash Charge increases ‘Amperage’ value to put in more power with more quantity maintaining the pressure. So where a normal fast charger put in 9 volts x 2 ampere = 18 watts of power into your device, OnePlus Dash Charge puts in 5 volts x 4 ampere = 20 watts of power. That is why the cable given with the OnePlus 3 and 3T is much thicker (about 300%) than a normal charging cable.
Talking about the benefits, this doesn’t heat up the device because the power is actually converted into the battery voltage inside the power or charging adapter itself, unlike other chargers where the power conversion is actually done inside the smartphone making it heat up every time you would put your device on charging.
Anecdotal feedback on the dash charger has been mixed if we go by a straw poll of about 10 users. While almost all (9) noticed the speed of charging 3, of our users, are complaining about a drop off within 4-6 months of regular charging. Something for One Plus to look at, possibly.
