OnePlus has finally confirmed that it is merging OxygenOS and HydrogenOS for ease of releasing updates. For those who are not aware, OnePlus sells its devices all over the world except in China running OxygenOS but in China the company has been releasing its devices with HydrogenOS.
After two years of this regional differentiation, the Chinese manufacturer have decided to merge the two OS which will make it easier for the company to provide quick and better updates.
OnePlus has been running a community builds forum through which it gets feedback from different users. Infact, the idea to merge the two OS also came from the same platform.
“With the community build we are experimenting with new ideas and features, and then using the feedback from our community to refine. In fact, the next versions of the community build will address a lot of the feedback we have already received,” said the company in its statement.
As mentioned earlier, apart from the quick updates it will also be easier for the company to provide consistent Android experience. Moreover, latest reports suggest that Oxygen OS 3.5 is likely to be the result of this merger.
“The main benefit of combining our team resources is to speed up software updates. We know we have some room to continue improving there, and this is an important step in the right direction.”
Well this might be good news for those who want quicker updates, but for those who liked the minimal skinned android interface with the OxygenOS might have to see some changes coming in from the HydrogenOS.
