OnePlus has always been the company of promises. The company promised a beta Oreo beta build for OnePlus 5 later this month and here it is. OnePlus 5 users can now enjoy the latest Android flavour via the first ever Open Beta update. Since this one is a public beta programme, anyone can participate and download the Open Beta 1, if you own a OnePlus 5.
However, once on any of the Open Beta build, you will not receive the official stable OTA updates. To download the new Open Beta 1 for your OnePlus 5, click here. For a detailed guide on how to install the Open Beta build on your OnePlus 5, clickhere.
If you are wondering about what is new, here is the official changelog:-

Updated to Android O (8.0)
Added Picture in Picture
Added Auto-fill
Added Smart text selection
New Quick Settings design
Added Parallel Apps
Updated security patch to November
Launcher
Added notification dots
New App folder design
Now able to upload photos directly to Shot on OnePlus
As expected, Android Oreo brings a bunch of interesting new features such as the Picture-in-Picture mode which lets you use certain apps on a little pop up while you multitask to other apps. Auto-fill is something which comes in really handy when registering on a portal or anywhere on the internet. Smart Selection will recognize a text and would give an option to search it on maps if it’s an address, call if it’s a phone number etc. Some new OnePlus exclusive features such as Parallel Apps have also made its way to the first Open Beta update for the OnePlus 5. Interestingly, we didn’t see the Face Unlock feature coming to the OnePlus 5 with this update, as rumoured previously. Nevertheless, we hope it eventually does come as Face Unlock has nothing to do with the hardware.
Other than this, if you own a OnePlus 3 or 3T, you can now manually flash the official OxygenOS 5.0 image based on Android 8.0 Oreo as the same has been released on the company’s website. Till now, the update was only being rolled out via OTA in some select regions. With OnePlus 3, 3T and now 5 on board with Android Oreo, it shouldn’t be long before the latest Android version hit the company’s latest flagship i.e. OnePlus 5T.
