Olive Telecom, a telecom communications devices provider, has designed a modem on the new multi-connective Qualcomm MDM6600 chipset, which will support 3G in both GSM and CDMA networks.
The company has already launched the modem in Russia with Sky Link, a part of Rostelecom, the largest state-owned telecom conglomerate in Russia.
Olive plans to launch the modem in India by February 2011. Arun Khanna, chairman, Olive Telecommunications, said, “We are talking to operators in India and will launch the modem by February here.”
On the pricing front, he said, “It will be slightly costlier than the currently available CDMA dongles but pricing will depend on operators.”
Qualcomm MDM6600 combines all the core technologies of the third generation existing in the world. MDM6600 supports Frequency ranges from 450 MHz to 2100 MGts, supports GSM / GPRS / EDGE, CDMA, HSDPA, HSPA (up to 14.4 Mbps) and EV-DO (to 14.7 Mbps) as well as the technology of satellite positioning GPS and GLONASS.
The company claims that the new modem will consume less power, thereby increasing the battery life of laptops.
