Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, reserved by Muslims for prayerful fasting and reflection. It is a time to practice self-restraint; a time to cleanse the body and soul from impurities and re-focus one on the worship of God.
There are many mobile apps, available across different platforms, which will help Muslims observe this holy month of Ramadan in true spirit. Here we have listed a recently launched App store and apps for your reference.
App store
Recently launched, Islamicapp.com is an app store that is designed to support devices across different platforms. It has apps that include The Holy Quran, prayers apps and alarms, ringtones, wallpapers, Muslim foods, Islamic finance, as well as a section for apps designed for children and another for women.
It has also got an app that allows users to watch Peace TV and Live Madinah TV 24 hours a day.
To download any of the applications featured on the store, which are all free, users must log in using their mobile, tablet or smartphone browsers and can then download apps directly to their device.
Smartphone and tablet users can also scan a barcode to upload the app directly to their smartphone or tablet. The content is currently available in both English and French, but Arabic is not supported.
Ridene, creator of the app store, says that there are many developers currently working on developing more apps for the site and developers can join up on Islamicapps.com and begin creating their own app straight away.
Nokia’s calendar app for Ramadan
Nokia has recently announced a downloadable dedicated Ramadan Calendar application which enhances users’ experiences during the Holy Month.
The calendar will allow users to access daily digital gifts in the form of trivia about Ramadan such as Islamic stories, daily fasting tips, images, prizes, and much more.
Further, Ramadan applications available for download cover a broad range of subjects and include: Holy Quran, Prayer Times, Hadeeth, Qibla Direction, Zakah Calculator, Boyoot Allah, Mozzaker.
Social apps available to keep users in touch include Ramadan Greetings, Whatsapp, FourSquare, Facebook and themes and ringtone apps include TaherQalby, SawomMaqbool, Ramadan Kareem and Nour Ramadan. All applications are available on the NokiaOvi Store and can be billed directly to user’s Etisalat phone prepaid or postpaid accounts.
Ramadan applications for 2011 are compatible with over 75 Nokia devices and the user interface for the applications is in English, Arabic, French and Urdu.
iMobile Ramadan calendar application
