Now get ready for affordable quad core tablets

Mediatek has introduced a new chipset which is likely to start a new trend of cheap quad core tablets as its MTK 6589 chipset did in the smartphone segment.

Mediatek, which ushered a new era in quad core smartphone space with its low cost chipsets, is all set to start a new trend of affordable quad core tablets. The maker has this time trained its gun on tablet space and has introduced a new quad-core application MT8125, aimed at tablets.

MediaTek has launched the processor with Cortex A7 architecture with clock speed up to 1.5 GHz. It is accompanied by a PowerVR Series5XT graphics processor. The MT8125 chipset will be able to support features like up to 13 camera and full (1920×1200) displays, and 1080p video playback and recording.

The tablet SoC (system on chip) also comes with MediaTek’s MiraVision technology which is known to offer better visual quality. In terms of connectivity features, it will support HSPA+, 2G EDGE, WiFi versions, 4.0, and FM for a variety of wireless connectivity options.

MediaTek has used WiFi certified Miracast technology in this which will improve multimedia content sharing speed between devices. The company has already got its first customer in Lenovo which will bring out IdeaTab S6000 series of tablets with this chipset.

As per our estimates, the prices of tablets with MediaTek MT8125 processor can vary from Rs 10,000 to up to Rs 20,000, depending on the display size, battery and brand.
