Nokia to discontinue Lumia 1020 this year: Report

Nokia is reported of ending support for the Nokia Lumia 1020 smartphone on September 14 and thereby raises possibility of yet another PureView Imaging technology based smartphone.

Nokia Lumia 1020, the 41 camera which was released last July, is reportedly set to be discontinued later this year. According to EVLeaks, Nokia Lumia 1020 will reach end of life status on September 14, about a year after its launch in India.

Nokia Lumia 1020 is the current flagship imaging device which precedes the large screen Lumia 1520. So if the EVLeaks’ report is true then Nokia, currently owned by Microsoft, would definitely announce a successor of the Lumia 1020 very soon.

With Lumia 1020, Nokia aimed to achieve the same level of imaging prowess as the company showed with Nokia 808 PureView. There was a difference of software platform and Nokia worked on Windows Phone to prove the company’s potential when it comes to imaging.

Currently, Lumia 1020 runs Windows Phone 8 update and is expected to get the upcoming Windows Phone 8.1 update. Microsoft has not shared exact dates or details for the roll out of the said update for the Lumia family of devices. Quite possibly the Windows Phone 8.1 update, which would be released by next month, would be the last update for the Lumia 1020.
