Nokia has announced the next major update — Symbian Belle, for its mobile phones. The new Symbian Belle update is meant for the Symbian^3 devices – N8, E7, C7, C6-01, X7, E6 and 500 will be made available by year end.
Resizable widgets, more home screens, improved status bar, better lock screen and NFC built-in are some of the new features that are promised with Belle update. The Symbian Belle update will be available for free for the Symbian Anna running devices and also with the new breed smartphones.
Nokia had promised to roll out more updates focused on improving the user interface of the Symbian^3 mobile operating system and also adding more features to it. Symbian Belle update is meant to improve and modernise the operating system experience.
One of the major changes comes in the form of resizable, free form and live widgets which will be available in five different sizes. The home screens can be personalised by using the resizable widgets and can be re-arranged anytime. Nokia has also Toggle set of widgets for certain features to be switched on or off like Bluetooth, WiFi and others.
With Belle, one can have up to six home screens to be decorated with resizable widgets. Furthermore the status bar has been improved along with a refined notifications drawer which carries toggle switches and notifications tray.
Navigation and the options bar will undergo a slick change to show a new, fresher look. Nokia brings more potential to lock screen by adding notifications like missed calls, messages, and more. Near Field Communications will be deeply integrated in the devices to make the best of the services available. Multitasking gets more visual appeal and is robust enough to quickly move between running apps.
Besides bringing more modernised looks, hope Nokia overcomes the short comings of Anna update. Nokia has also released three new handsets that will come with Symbian Belle preloaded — 600, 700 and 701.
