After announcing its first smartphone from the comeback lineup, the Nokia 6, seems like the company is working on more than just smartphones for the year 2017. As per the latest reports, the Finnish company is reportedly working on its own AI-powered assistant named ‘Viki’ which the company is expected to integrate with its future launches.
Spotted first by GSMinfo, Nokia has recently applied for a trademark in EU with the name ‘Viki’. The trademark application reads – “software for the creation and monitoring of mobile and web assistants working with digital knowledge and combining all data sources into a single chat and voice-based interface.”
With an AI-powered personal assistant, Nokia will be head to head against the likes of Google (Google Assistant), Apple (Siri) and Windows (Cortana). Further, Samsung is also reportedly working on its own AI-based voice assistant named Bixby which the company is expected to release with the Galaxy S8. According to a report by Sammobile, the AI assistant will be much more advanced than its current S Voice virtual assistant. Quoting an example, one can ask Bixby to filter out and show specific pictures or videos while he/she navigates through the Gallery app. Further, similar to Google Assistant or Apple’s Siri, Bixby will pop up contextual answers as well.
On the other hand, it will be interesting to see what Nokia has in store in terms of voice-assistant as we have to admit, that the road to the best voice assistant is now a lot bumpier after Google came up with its own Google Assistant last year.
