Nokia, which dominates the mobile handset business in India and the world over, has hinted that it will not venture into the tablet business for the time being.
Speculation about Nokia’s entry into the tablet segment was rife after the Finnish handset maker announced its partnership with Microsoft recently.
During the launch of Nokia E7 in New Delhi recently, D Shivkumar, vice president and managing director of Nokia India, made a presentation on how smartphones are taking over the PC market. The source of this analysis was a study by Gartner.
The inclusion of such a statement itself is a big hint towards Nokia’s future plans.
When asked about plans of foraying into the tablet market, D Shivkumar warded off the question saying that he is “not the right person to comment on this particular topic”.
Notably, Microsoft plans to launch a tablet operating system by the end of this year.
