HMD Global has started rolling out new updates to the Nokia 9 PureView, Nokia 8.1, Nokia 7.1 and Nokia 7 Plus across several regions. The updates come with a new Pie build and with that is Google’s latest Android security patches.
Updates were first spotted on the Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8.1 after NokiaPowerUser shared some user screenshots of the changelog. With the latest firmware, both the Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8.1 feature Google’s latest August 2019 Android security patches. The updates weigh in at 71.8MB on Nokia 8.1 and 103MB on Nokia 7 Plus.
The report further explains that the Nokia 8.1 update is available for users in India and Poland. Nokia 7 Plus users in India, Pakistan and Myanmar are also reportedly receiving updates.
Another report from the same publication has revealed that HMD Global is now seeding a similar update to the Nokia 9 PureView and Nokia 7.1. While the changelog on the Nokia 7.1 update only shows the addition of the latest August 2019 Android security patches, the Nokia 9 PureView update comes with UI enhancements, improved system stability and only July 2019 Android security.
Google’s latest August 2019 security update solves a critical security vulnerability in Android. The vulnerability allowed a remote attacker to use a modified PAC file to execute codes to obtain a privileged process to a user’s device. The August 2019 security update solves that
The update on the Nokia 7.1 is rolling out to users in India while the Nokia 9 PureView update is reportedly being seeded to users in Russia. However, Indian users of the Nokia 9 PureView can expect a similar update shortly since the Nokia 9 PureView went on sale in offline markets in India last month.
