Nokia 8, Nokia 6, Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 confirmed to get Android Oreo update

The information comes from twitter handle of Juho Sarvikas, HMD Global's Chief Officer.

HMD Global has finally confirmed that all its smartphones Nokia-branded smartphones including Nokia 8, 6, 5 and 3 will soon get to taste latest 8.0 Oreo update. The news was confirmed by Juho Sarvikas HMD Global’s Chief Officer.

On hisTwitter handle, Sarvikas wrote, “All of our smartphones will upgrade to Oreo, Nokia 3 included. No comments yet on timing so that I don’t get into trouble.”

Interestingly, he does not reveal the timeline for the upcoming update, but it good to see that the company will also update its budget-centric smartphone, the Nokia 3 to the latest Android version. To recall, the company recently launched the Nokia 8 and it is is expected to cost around Rs 45,000 in India. The device might hit the Indian shores before Diwali in October. Nokia 6, Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 are already available in India and are priced at 14,999, Rs 12,899 and Rs 9,499respectively. The Nokia 6 is available for purchase from Amazon India, while the Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 are available through the offline channels. Currently Nokia 5 and 6 Series runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat, while the Nokia 3 runs on Android 7.0.

However, according to a recent report, the budget-centric smartphone will be soon updated to the latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat.

Google has already revealed that by the end of this year, hardware makers including Essential, General Mobile, HMD Global Home of Nokia Phones, Huawei, HTC, Kyocera, LG, Motorola, Samsung, Sharp and Sony are scheduled to launch or upgrade devices to Android 8.0 Oreo. Further, Android Beta users will receive the update to the final version today and images are available to download and flash manually.

The company has included most of the features, which it revealed during its annual developer conference. To start with, there is a picture-in-picture mode that lets users to two tasks simultaneously. So, for example, one can minimise a YouTube video while sending a text message or writing an email.
