Nokia 3, 5 and 6 confirmed to receive Android Oreo update

Nokia 8 is also likely to get the Oreo update in coming months, if not so in this year-end as recently the beta update for Nokia 8 smartphone was teased by Juho Sarvikas

HMD Global has recently launched Nokia 8 smartphone in India for Rs 36,999. Nokia 8 along with Nokia 3, 5 and 6 were earlier confirmed to soon get to taste latest Android 8.0 Oreo update by Juho Sarvikas HMD Global’s Chief Officer. Now HMD’s General Manager for Australia, New Zeland and Indonesia Mark Trundle has confirmed that the Nokia 3, 5 and 6 will be updated to Android Oreo by the end of the year in an interview with GadgetGaul and Nokianesia, as per NokiaMob. With this development, Nokia 8 is also likely to get the Oreo update in coming months, if not so in this year-end as recently the beta update for Nokia 8 smartphone was teased by Juho Sarvikas, the Chief Product Officer at HMD Global on twitter. Further, Sarvikas said Android Oreo is “maturing nicely” on Nokia 8 and the company will “release when perfect”.

Nokia 6, Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 are already available in India and are priced at 14,999, Rs 12,999 and Rs 9,499 respectively. The Nokia 6 is available for purchase from Amazon India, while the Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 are available through the offline channels. Currently Nokia 5 and 6 Series runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat, while the Nokia 3 runs on Android 7.0. However, according to a recent report, the budget-centric smartphone will be soon updated to the latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat.

Google has already revealed that by the end of this year, hardware makers including Essential, General Mobile, HMD Global Home of Nokia Phones, Huawei, HTC, Kyocera, LG, Motorola, Samsung, Sharp and Sony are scheduled to launch or upgrade devices to Android 8.0 Oreo. Further, Android Beta users will receive the update to the final version today and images are available to download and flash manually.

The company has included most of the features, which it revealed during its annual developer conference. To start with, there is a picture-in-picture mode that lets users to two tasks simultaneously. So, for example, one can minimise a YouTube video while sending a text message or writing an email.
