HMD Global launched Nokia 2.1, Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 5.1 smartphones at its event in Moscow yesterday. Now the company has announced that budget-centric Nokia 2 will get Android 8.1 Oreo next month in June.
The Nokia 2 is the last Nokia-branded smartphone to be updated to Android Oreo after Nokia 5 and original Nokia 6 started receiving Android 8.1 at the end of March and the Nokia 3 in April.
Earlier, Juho Sarvikas, Chief Officer at HMD Global, confirmed that the brand is planning to update the Nokia 2 to Android 8.1 Oreo.
Nokia 2 was launched in India last year running on Android 7.1.1 Nougat, with a stock Android experience. The smartphone comes with a price tag of Rs 6,999 and it is available in three colour options including Pewter/Black, Pewter/White and Copper/Black.
The fact why HMD Global will update the Nokia 2 to the latest Android 8.1 Oreo is the fact that it comes with Android Go memory management and features that will help Nokia 2 to run faster on the latest Android version. To recall, Google announced Android Oreo (Go Edition) at Google For India event in December this year.
The Nokia 2 is made from 6000 series of an aluminium body, which provides some durability to the smartphone. The major highlight of the device is the 4100mAh battery, which the company claims to last 2 days. The phone features 5-inch HD LTPS display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels coupled with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.
The smartphone is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 mobile platform clocked at 1.3GHz. The phone is backed by 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, which is expandable in nature. On the camera front, the device features an 8-megapixel rear camera along with LED flash, while for the front, there is a 5-megapixel sensor for selfies and video calling.
