TrueCaller, a popular App built by a Swedish company, lets its user know who is calling him even if the contact is not saved in the phone book has a fan in popular VJ Nikhil Chinapa.
When The Mobile Indian caught up with Nikhil at an HP event in Delhi, he said, “I regularly use TrueCaller to identify people who are calling me as it makes my life easy.”
We asked him whether he was concerned about a feature called Enhanced Search, which allows the app to securely send his phone book contacts to TrueCaller’s servers, and he said, “I know about this issue, but to tackle it I never save the original name in my contact database and whatever fudged name I have saved I know who they are.”
If a user downloads TrueCaller and reads the detailed terms of service he will come to know that his phone book will become part of a publicly searchable database when he accepts the terms and conditions of the app maker.
