Apple has managed to sell a whopping three million units of its New iPad in just three days of its launch in the USA. Compared to this number, only 3 lakh units of iPad 1 were sold on the first day and it took 28 days for the first Apple tablet to reach 1 million.
No official figures for iPad2 are available but estimates put the number in between 4 to 10 lakh units in the first week. With that perspective, the New iPad sales figures are huge and beyond all expectations.
However, iPhone 4S which was launched in October last year, sold 4 million units in its first weekend of going to the markets. And on that account iPhone retains the tag of most popular mobile device.
The sales figures of New iPad has surprised many. The device was criticised for being only slightly better than the iPad2, with better Resolution retina display, slightly faster Processor and support for 4G network (not for WiFi only model).
In its release, Apple said it would expand New iPad sales in next three days to 24 new countries including Italy, Greece and New Zealand. The New iPad went on sale from March 16 in 11 countries, including the United States, Canada and Australia. Apple India has said that it will be launching New iPad in the country soon.
