Foursquare app, which is used to explore new hangouts and other interesting places, has been upgraded to version 3.0 for Android and iOS devices, which has six new categories. Participating merchants can now offer deals to first-time visitors or Foursquare groups visiting their businesses.
Foursquare’s popularity has driven many businesses to offer real rewards to customers, such as a free coffee to the person adjudged “Mayor” of their coffee shop by the app.
Users can now search places by terms such as nightlife and food, or even fireplaces, and can also use the ‘explore’ tab to know about a particular place or shop. Users can either search for phrases, or browse by category.
Information about places that a user visits frequently is shared among all his friends.
BlackBerry phones will also get a Foursquare update, though all the new features will not be included in it.
