A new mobile calendar App called Plango has been announced for Facebook. The app lets users of the social network invite friends to events (such as for lunch); see who is attending; keep track of changes in the programme; send massages; and also integrate with Facebook Places (map) to find a venue for the get together.
Although Facebook already allows you to send invites, there is so far no calendar to manage dates.
“There has been much innovation across social and mobile in the past ten years, but the calendar has somehow managed to remain largely static,” said Petri Sakkinen, chief executive officer of GoAct, the company behind Plango.
“Plango is the useful, fun calendar extension that Facebook has been missing. We redefine the calendar by putting event planning in your pocket, and providing you with a single view of all real-life events and related social activity happening in your network.”
Plango users log in using their Facebook credentials and can invite their Facebook friends to events on it. Events can be private or public, and friends can leave comments or coordination notes in the event’s records. The calendar service isn’t limited to smartphone users. Invites can reach anyone listed in your phone book; Plango sends SMS messages when necessary.
Plango is now available world over on the iPhone, and only in USA and Finland on the web. The company is also building an app for Android.
