Just days after announcing the Q60, K50 and K40 smartphones with HD+ FullVision displays, LG has introduced a new line of flagship devices at the Mobile World Congress 2019 – the LG V50 ThinQ 5G, LG G8 ThinQ and LG G8s ThinQ. All three smartphones come with a triple camera setup at the back and are powered by a Snapdragon 855 chipset with the V50 ThinQ featuring support for 5G bands.
LG has unveiled its first 5G-based smartphone and that is the LG V50 ThinQ 5G. The device, as expected comes with a Snapdragon 855with Snapdragon X50 5G Modem and also features a heat-dissipation system which LG calls a Vapor Chamber. The phone features a 6.4-inch QHD+ OLED screen with a Resolution of 3120 x 1440 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. It comes in a single Astro Black colour and can be purchased with a Dual Screen accessory for gaming and multitasking.
In terms of optics, the V50 ThinQ 5G equips a triple camera setup at the back – 12MP (f/1.5 aperture, 1.4µm Pixel size, 78 degree) sensor + 16MP ( f/1.9 aperture, 1.0µm pixel size, 107 degree) super wide lens + 12MP (f/2.4 aperture, 1.0µm pixel size, 45 degree) telephoto camera. For the front, there’s an 8MP + 5MP camera for selfies and video conferencing.
The phone comes running Android 9.0 (Pie) and is fuelled by a 4,000mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. There’s a fingerprint scanner at the back and the device comes with MIL-STD 810G protection and IP68 certification to withstand water and dust. The dimensions are 159.2 x 76.1 x 8.3mm and the phone weighs at 183 grams. Connectivity options include 5G, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5 LE, GPS, NFC and USB Type-C 2.0.
LG G8 ThinQ and LG G8s ThinQ
The LG G8 ThinQ is equipped with a 6.1-inch OLED display with a Quad HD+ resolution of 1440 x 3120 pixels while the G8s ThinQ comes with a 6.2-inch OLED FHD+ display with a resolution of 1080 x 2248 pixels. Both phones are powered by a Snapdragon 855 chipset with 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage.
There’s a triple camera configuration at the back of both the phones but they’re different to each other. The G8 ThinQ features a 12MP main camera + 16MP super wide lens + 12MP telephone lens at the back while the G8s ThinQ incorporates a 12MP primary + 13MP super wide + 12MP telephoto lens. The front camera on both these devices is the same as they both get an 8MP (f/1.7 aperture, 1.22μm) lens with a 3D ToF sensor for 3D face unlock and selfies.
Both phones come running Android 9 Pie and feature 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5 LE, GPS, NFC and USB Type-C 2.0 for connectivity. The G8 ThinQ and G8s ThinQ come with 3,500mAh and 3550mAh batteries respectively supported by Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 technology. Both phones weigh in at 167 grams and measure at 151.9 x 71.8 x 8.4mm. The devices additionally come with Air Motion feature for air gestures and will come in Aurora Black, Moroccan Blue and Carmine Red colours.
