MTNL, which offers services in Delhi and Mumbai only, has announced several tariff packs to lure consumers.
These packs include a night calling pack which costs Rs 30 and reduces call rates within network to 5 paisa per minute (MTNL to MTNL calls) and other local calls to 30 paisa per minute. The pack is valid for 30 days.
Yet another pack is aimed at heavy SMS users. In Rs 30 per month operator is offering 500 local and national SMSes free.
For customers in Mumbai a special pack worth Rs 39 per month has been launched. It will enable them to make calls at 39 paisa per to all MTNL subscribers in Mumbai, Maharashtra and Goa.
MTNL users can also make calls at Rs 48 paisa per minute to all local and STD numbers with a pack costing Rs 48. The pack will be valid for 6 month.
All the packs are available for both prepaid and postpaid customers of MTNL.
However this move is unlikely to create much of impact on other operators as similar call rates are available with other operators also. And as it is private operators seldom react to MTNLs move as off late the PSU has become a marginal player in the highly competitive metro markets.
For MTNL consumers however, the move is a welcome move as they will be able to get desired tariffs based on their usage pattern.
