Moto G5 now receiving Android 8.1 Oreo update in India

The Motorola G5 has now directly received Android 8.1 Oreo update and it has skipped the Android 8.0 Oreo update. In addition to that, the update also brings in August security patch to the phone as well.

Motorola has started rolling out the Oreo 8.1 update for the Moto G5 smartphone users in India. Earlier this month, the update was rolled out for users only in Mexico. Alongside, Moto G5 Plus users in India also received Android Oreo update.

The Moto G5 has now directly received Android 8.1 Oreo update and it has skipped the Android 8.0 Oreo update. In addition to that, the update also brings in August security patch to the phone as well. This update brings in features like Smart Text Selection, Autofill, Picture-in-Picture Mode,Notification channels, snooze notifications and more to the Moto G5.

Since the update is rolled out over-the-air, it will be reaching Moto G5 owners within a week or two. If you don’t get any update notification, you can manually check for the update by going to the Settings > About phone > System update menu and click Download. Once the update is downloaded on your device, you have to reboot your device, post which the Android 8.1 Oreo update will be installed.

This update introduces changes including the following:

  • Android 8.1 Oreo: many enhancements including new multitasking features, more efficient notification controls, improved data saver, battery features, new power menu and improvements
  • Android security: includes the updates of Android security patches through August 1st of 2018
  • Stability improvements: includes changes that fix bugs and improve the stability of your phone

To recall, Moto G5 features a 5-inch Full display with a screen resolution of a 1980 x 1080 pixels. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor, 3GB of and 16GB of internal storage. It has a 2800mAh battery coupled with 10W rapid charger and features a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera.
