Moto G4 Play’s sale is set to start later tonight (at 10 PM). Meanwhile, reports claimed that the smartphone is to be available at Rs 8,999 on Amazon. We thus decided to compare it with the Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime which we recently reviewed. So let’s compare the Redmi 3S Prime with the Moto G4 Play.
Design and Display
The Redmi 3S Prime comes with a metal unibody with curved edges at the back making it quite comfortable to hold but it somehow makes the phone more slippery. The phone has a 5 inch 720p IPS screen and also sports a quick fingerprint scanner at the back.
The new Moto G4 Play though doesn’t come with a metallic built but still looks sturdy in the pictures. Also, the ergonomics relate a lot to the original Moto G4. The Motorola Moto G4 Play features a 5-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) HD display with water repellent nano-coating but there’s no fingerprint scanner. Water- repellent should not be confused with water-proof. While water proof means complete protection from any kind of water exposure, water-repellent means drizzles (like in light rains).
Processor and Operating System
Jumping straight in to the CPU, the Redmi 3S Prime is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 64-bit octa-core processor clocked at 1.4 GHz. It has Adreno 505 GPU and 3GB of RAM. Whereas, the Moto G4 Play boasts a 1.4 GHz quad-core 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 (MSM8916) processor clubbed with Adreno 306 GPU and 2GB of RAM. Both the devices run on Android 6.0.1 out of the box but differ a lot in terms of Android Skins they run. While Moto G4 Play comes with stock like Android experience, Redmi 3S Prime runs on MIUI which no doubt resembles a lot to iOS. On paper, Redmi 3S Prime has the better processor but the Android skin could be a deal breaker for some users.
Camera
The Redmi 3S Prime, as the Redmi 3S, has a 13 megapixel rear camera and a 5 megapixel front camera. The rear camera has phase detection auto focus (PDAF) and built in HDR features. Besides, the rear camera has 5-piece lens and f/2.0 aperture. You can check out its camera samples here.
One the other hand, The Moto G4 Play sports an 8-megapixel rear shooter with LED flash, and a 5-megapixel selfie camera in the front. The rear camera has f/2.2 aperture, 4X digital zoom, Burst mode, Auto HDR, Panorama, Drag to focus & exposure, and 1080p HD video (30 fps) recording features.
Storage
Redmi 3S Prime comes with 32 GB Internal storage which is expandable up to 128 GB via micro SD card. Whereas, Moto G4 Play comes with only 16GB internal storage which can also be expanded up to 128GB via micro SD card. But Redmi 3S Prime comes with a hybrid SIM slot for SD card expansion and Moto G4 Play has a dedicated micro SD card slot.
Connectivity and Battery
Both the phones have Bluetooth 4.1, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS connectivity. While Redmi 3S Prime is Dual SIM (Hybrid Slot), you don’t get Dual SIM capability in Moto G4 Play. Both the phones also comes with VoLTE support. Redmi 3S Prime has OTG support and IR blaster as well.
Battery is one department where there is absolutely no competition for the Redmi 3S Prime which features a whopping 4100 mAh battery whereas the Moto G4 Play comes with only 2800 mAh battery.
Wrapping Up
On paper, Redmi 3S Prime certainly looks better with an extra GB RAM, better processor and massive battery. But one has to note the difference between the android skins. If you are more inclined towards Nexus like experience, Moto G4 Play will certainly live up to the expectation. Whereas, if Android skin doesn’t matter much then Redmi 3S Prime is the best deal you can get at this price.
