Microsoft releases free Files app for the Windows Phone devices

The Files app will not be bundled in the Windows Phone 8.1 update but has been made available as a standalone application.

Microsoft has finally managed to release a major application for the Windows Phone 8.1 based devices. The Files meant for the files management has been made available for free and is already available for the Windows Phone 8.1 based devices. With the new Files App, Microsoft has given a capability that the rival platform – Google is yet to offer on the platform.

Microsoft has taken a big jump by including several functions, features and capabilities in the Windows Phone 8.1 to make a really competitive and fluidly simple mobile operating system. Back in December, The Mobile Indian reported about Microsoft’s plans to bring a file manager with support for SkyDrive (now, OneDrive) support.
Microsoft releases free Files app
Earlier this month, Joe Belfiore, corporate vice president and manager for Microsoft Windows Phone platform shared the confirmation about the arrival of the file management capability for the Windows Phone platform. Now a new response from Microsoft Admin at the Windows Phone UserVoice support forum confirms that the file explorer and management features offering app will be released with the name Files.

The Files app will not be bundled in the Windows Phone 8.1 update but has been made available as a standalone application. Compared to Apple and Google Android, the Windows Phone is now the only platform to offer File management capability officially after the the BlackBerry platform.

Files app is the most native and basic feature offering app with lack of support for the OneDrive or any other cloud storage service. One can create folders and even move files between them.
