Microsoft Launcher 5.0 for Android adds Timeline support, redesigned Feed

The Microsoft Launcher 5.0 for Android allows users to synchronise activities between their PC and Android phone through Timeline Support. The new feature will let you jump from your PC’s edge browser to the scroll through the same content on your phone and vice versa and also works with documents.

Apart from the new line of Surface products on display, Microsoft has announced an update to the Microsoft Launcher for with new features and support for Timeline.

The Microsoft Launcher 5.0 for Android, as it’s aptly called, allows users to synchronise activities between their PC and Android phone through Timeline Support. The new feature will let you jump from your PC’s edge to the scroll through the same content on your phone and vice versa and also works with documents if you use Microsoft’s Office apps on your phone. The feature will work seamlessly when users sign in to the same Microsoft account on both their PCs and the Launcher for Android.

Furthermore, the Feed page has been split into three new tabs – News, Glance and the above mentioned Timeline tab. The News section is the exact same new widget from before but this time around, it’s extended to its own dedicated area. Users will be able to customise their News feed with their favourite topics from sports, politics, lifestyle and technology.

The new Glance tab offers a cleaner that the older Feed with customised widgets and rearranging freedom. The top of the feed now greets users with the weather, events and Microsoft Rewards point. Microsoft has also announced that Launcher can now be integrated with WhatsApp if a user is using Swiftkey as their default keyboard.

Microsoft Launcher 5.0 for Android is currently available for users interested sign up for beta testing and will be rolled out to all users in the next few weeks. The company will also bring similar features to the Microsoft Edge on to allow iPhone users to make use of Timeline support.
