In the latest update, available only for Android as of now, Microsoft has updated its digital voice assistant – Cortana with a new interface. The update is available for download on Google PlayStore starting today while it will be introduced to iOS devices in the coming weeks.
Microsoft said in a blog post today – “It’s not just the look we’ve updated. The Cortana App is now faster so you can get what you need more quickly on the go.”
Unfortunately, Microsoft has introduced the newly revamped app in the UK as of now. However, we expect it to soon roll out the update to other countries as well. Up till now, Cortana was only available in the US and China. And we really don’t have any idea as to when does Microsoft plan to serve Indian customers in this case.
Though extremely useful, Microsoft’s Cortana never got the same degree of reception as it was the case with Apple’s Siri or Google Now or even the recently launched Google Assistant. One reason for this can be Window’s not so successful run on Mobile Platform and people don’t really use a voice assistant on Laptop / PC devices.
Coming back to the update, the most prominent change is the colour which is now Purple from Blue. Apart from that, Microsoft has gone for a more simplified look regarding the overall design. Moreover, the Redmond-based firm has also included a nifty feature called ‘Quick Actions’ which place the new reminders and weather information straight on the landing page so you don’t have to voice search for things like reminders and weather information. Also, if you fail to attend a call then the digital voice assistant from Microsoft can send a text to the concerned contact saying that you are busy and will call later. Lastly, the Hey Cortana feature is still there but only on Android platform.
