Micromax’s latest offering, the Canvas Juice 2, has been announced for Rs 8,999 – the same as its famous Yu Yureka. An advantage of Canvas Juice 2 is that it is available like all phones and you don’t have to be participate in a flash sale like what happens for Yu Yureka.
But the big question is that does Canvas Juice 2 has enough juice against the Yureka? Here we have tried to answer that question by comparing the two phones on the basis of their features.
Design
The Micromax Canvas Juice 2 AQ5001 has a lot of resemblance with the HTC One series phones, and not in a bad way. The Juice 2 is very good looking phone from the front, but the rear is a little dull and boring (it appears so in the picture, we may revise this opinion once we see it in real). It has very thin bezels, and seems to be quite thin. The measurements aren’t available, but the phone doesn’t seem too large. It does weigh a considerable 152 grams.
The Yu Yureka has a rubberised back panel. The phone itself has a large footprint, thanks to the 5.5 inch display, thankfully the bezels on the side are thin, even though the same cannot be said of the top. The edges are well rounded, and the phone looks fairly good all around, but doesn’t stand out, per se.
Both of these phones are good looking in their own way, and we can’t pick a winner.
Display
The Yu Yureka has a 5.5 inch HD IPS display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels, meaning, it has pixels density of 267 ppi. The high resolution and IPS technology promises that you can view HD content at wide viewing angles. The Micromax Canvas Juice 2 AQ5001 has a 5 inch HD IPS display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels, resulting in a Pixel density of 294 ppi.
Both displays have similar resolution and similar technology, leaving it down to size, and that is down to the end user.
Processor and Memory
The Micromax Canvas Juice 2 AQ5001 has a quad-core 1.3 GHz MediaTek MT6582M processing unit with a Mali 400 GPU. The phone has 2 GB of RAM. The Internal Memory stands at 8 GB, to which another 32 GB can be added via a microSD card.
The Yu Yureka comes with a octa-core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon 615 processor, and an Adreno 405 GPU, coupled with a high 2 GB of RAM. The internal memory on offer is 16 GB, but it is expandable by another 32 GB via a microSD card.
The Yu Yureka wins this round, as it has a faster processor, four more cores, and 8 GB of internal storage over and above what the Canvas Juice 2 has to offer.
Software
The Yu Yureka uses CyanogenMod OS 11- a highly customisable OS based on Android KitKat, that has all the geeks drooling over the potential of the device. The warranty is valid on rooted phones, a very unusual move. To the users who are not inclined to modify the OS, the phone is like any other Android device.
The Micromax Canvas Juice 2 AQ5001 runs on Android Lollipop, and is largely stock, except for a few Micromax customisations.
CyanogenMod is a far better OS as it offers a number of customisation features. But, if you plan on using it just as a regular user, the Juice 2 with Lollipop makes more sense.
Battery
The Micromax Canvas Juice 2 AQ5001 has a 3000 mAh battery, which claims to provide up to 9 hours of Talk time or 435 hours of standby. The Yu Yureka has a 2500 mAh battery, enough for 8 hours of talk time or 210 hours of standby.
The Juice 2 wins this round, as it has a larger battery. But a fact that is easy to ignore is that as the Juice 2 runs on Lollipop, it features Project Volta, which optimises battery life even further.
Camera
The Yu Yureka is equipped with a 13 Megapixel primary camera with a Sony Exmor R sensor, auto-focus, geo-tagging, etc. The primary camera can record in 1080p at 30 fps; it even has a slow motion mode which records in 720p at 60 fps. In its front there is a 5 megapixel camera which has a 71 degree wide viewing angle, making it easy to capture the background in a selfie. You can check out our camera test here.
The Micromax Canvas Juice 2 AQ5001 has an 8 megapixel camera with auto-focus, smile detection, HDR, flash, and video recording. The front has a 2 megapixel selfie taker.
Spec for spec, the Yu Yureka is significantly better than the Micromax Canvas Juice 2, as it has more pixels and better technology.
Connectivity
The Micromax Canvas Juice 2 AQ5001 is a Dual-SIM phone with 3G, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0. The dual-SIM Yu Yureka comes with a host of connectivity options, such as 3G, 4G, Bluetooth 4.0, and WiFi.
The Yu Yureka wins this round as it is 4G enabled.
Wrapping Up
The Yu Yureka is ahead when it comes to screen size, camera, connectivity, processing ability, and depending on your usage, OS too. The Micromax Canvas Juice 2 AQ5001 only has a larger battery, and again, depending on your usage, OS in its favour.
