If you planning to buy a new Android smartphone based on quad core processor but have a tight budget you can consider Karbonn Titanium S5( Rs 11,990) and Micromax Canvas HD A116 (Rs 14,499).
Both Titanium S5 and Canvas HD A116 have a 5 inch display screen and run on quad core processor form Qualcomm and Mediatek respectively. Here is a head on comparison of their specifications which would help you out in choosing one.
Body and display
Both the handsets come with 5 inch capacitive touchscreens but the Canvas HD has high definition Resolution against qHD (540×960) resolution of the Karbonn smartphone. Both though have IPS displays.
Processor, OS and RAM
Though both the handsets, Karbonn Titanium S5 and Micromax Canvas HD A116, come with 1.2 GHz quad core processors, Titanium S5 looks exciting with its Qualcomm Snapdragon Chipset (probably the Snapdragon S4 MSM8225Q) against the Mediatek (MTK MT6589) of the Canvas HD.
Both have 1 GB RAM and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system.
Camera
Interestingly, Titanium S5 and Canvas HD A116 come with 8 Megapixel rear camera along with a 2 megapixel front camera. From the specifications itself, we cannot say much about the quality of the cameras used in the Karbonn Titanium S5.
However, we had already reviewed the Canvas HD and you can check some images captured through its rear camera here.
Storage
Karbonn has not revealed the internal storage capacity of Titanium S5 but it nonetheless comes with 32 GB of expandable memory. The Micromax Canvas HD comes with 1.77 GB Internal Memory (user available) along with 32 GB of expandable memory slot.
Battery
Both the handsets come with 2000 mAh battery. As per Micromax, the Canvas HD provides around 5 hours of talktime, which we also found to be true during our review of the handset. Karbonn has not revealed the exact battery output of the Titanium S5 but since its display has lesser resolution (qHD) than Canvas HD (high definition), it expected to give more battery back up than the Micromax smartphone despite the fact that both have 5 inch IPS displays.
Connectivity
Canvas A116 has all the Sensors like proximity sensor, motion sensor, gravity sensor and light sensor. And more importantly, all the sensors work well. Connectivity wise also, the Canvas A116 is quite rich. It has the advanced Bluetooth 4.0 as well as USB 2.0. Besides, it has WiFi, GPS, a 3.5 mm jack etc.
Karbonn too comes with Bluetooth and Micro USB port but their versions are not known as of now. We also are expecting it to have proximity sensor, motion sensor, gravity sensor and light sensors as these are mostly common to Android mid-range handsets.
Availability
Currently, Karbonn Titanium S5 is available through Snapdeal only. On the other hand, Micromax currently is in the process of clearing shipments to those who have pre-booked the phone when it was launched on February 14 this year. The phone is not available currently from any online retail stores while writing this story but the company has promised to send supplies to both online as well as physical stores soon.
Conclusion
As of now Karbonn Titanium S5 has huge advantage over the Canvas HD due to its availability. Also it is Rs 2,000 cheaper than the Canvas HD A116. However, the Canvas HD seems to have a better display but since it is not available in the market, Karbonn Titanium S5 seems to be the only warrior left in the arena.
